About Us

Lagganlia feels remote but is in fact only a few minutes drive away from 'civilisation' (see our Find Us page to see exactly where we are). We are only 2½ hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow and approx 9 miles from Kingussie and 8 miles from Aviemore.

Some History
Lagganlia Centre was inaugurated by the Duke of Edinburgh on 30th June 1970. The land and original buildings were gifted to the citizens of Edinburgh by the philanthropist George Boyd Anderson as a further development of his vision to give the young people of the Scottish capital a chance to ski. A vision which had previously resulted in the building of Hillend Dry Ski Slope on the outskirts of Edinburgh (then the longest dry ski slope in Europe).

What do we do?
Lagganlia Centre is still part of the Edinburgh City Council and aims to give individuals the opportunity to grow in confidence and develop personally through the medium of outdoor activities and adventures. For schools/colleges we aim to link into the curriculum and current important National/International agendas (want to hear what our school students think of Lagganlia? Click here). We offer residential courses in Outdoor Education, Adventures and Expeditions and Self-catering Accommodation where groups can plan their own adventure or hire an instructor/guide for a day activity of their choice. For special group events we can also offer day visitor activities and some conference type facilities. We also have an extensive instructor training programme and are proud to be able to train the instructors of the future.

Why come to Lagganlia?
Our location is stunning, our accommodation is warm and comfortable, our instructors are highly qualified in a large range of outdoor activities and, in the main, you will be allocated your own instructor who will work with you throughout your stay with us - you will get to know them and they will get to know you - your abilities and aspirations! Our equipment is top of the range, regularly checked and maintained and is free to borrow when working with one of our instructors.

Is it good value for money? ABSOLUTELY!
We are part of the City of Edinburgh Council, Children and Families department and therefore strive to deliver activities of the highest quality without the pressures of needing to make enormous profits.
