Raven: Let the challenge... begin!

Ravenis the exciting BAFTA* award winning children's adventure game show produced, since 2002, by BBC Scotland. The show is currently filmed around the Aviemore area with Lagganlia playing host to the 'warriors' (contestants) and providing safety advice/cover and input into the design of the warrior challenges.

Raven(played by actor James Mackenzie) is an ancient, immortal Scottish warlord (his name refers to his ability to shape-shift into a raven). His mortal enemy is Nevar, whom he fights to prevent darkness from covering the land.

His purpose is to find an ultimate warrior (the winner of each series) to help him in his battle against Nevar. Children compete to become this ultimate warrior by undertaking a set of exciting outdoor challenges with Ravenas their guide throughout their quest.

The many challenges which the warriors have to complete vary from series to series but they always test the warriors' courage, strength, agility, and teamwork.

Lagganlia has been delighted to host Ravenas its content fits closely with the Centre's own aims and objectives. Ian Ross (Lagganlia, Head of Centre) said: "the links with mainstream Outdoor Education at first may seem weak. However the production centres on many of the attributes we hold as key to a successful course. The warriors have to act as good teams and they have to give of their best to achieve 'ultimate warrior' status. It is hugely exciting and inspiring to all children to watch youngsters undertaking very dramatic outdoor challenges on cliffs, over, in and on water and completing various strategic problem solving tasks."

The Raven production has played an important role in inspiring the many children who visit Lagganlia from schools across the world. It has also showcased the beautiful and dramatic scenery of our surroundings in the Cairngorms National Park.
