General Info.
All students under 18 years who are attending a fully serviced course will be
sent a "consent form" through their course organiser.
This form seeks information on dietary requirements, allergies, prescribed
medicines, swimming ability etc.
Meals are home made and of a high standard. Although there is normally one set
menu at mealtimes we can provide for special diets if we are given adequate
notice.
Sheets and bedding are supplied, but you will need to bring your own towel and
personal toiletries.
All necessary specialist equipment is provided from our well stocked stores.
Group leaders have been issued with a suggested clothing list, and will pass
this on to you in due course.
Students have access to a public telephone a small shop, laundry facilities, a
drying room, and a good selection of games and recreational facilities both
inside and out.
Bedrooms vary in size, but the typical student room sleeps four people. Toilet
and shower facilities will normally be adjacent to the bedrooms.
We specialise in delivering custom built courses to comply with the specific
requirements of our clients. We are more flexible and client friendly than any
other provider we know of.
Lagganlia is owned and managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. Our work is
primarily with City of Edinburgh Education Department clients, but we also work
with groups from all over the UK and beyond. We are open fifty two weeks in the
year and seven days a week.
The range and scope of activities available are so wide that we can offer a
full and interesting programme whatever the weather or the time of year.
For fully serviced courses the fees are inclusive of food, accommodation,
equipment, instruction and in course transport. There are no extras apart from
"pocket money".
We offer these fully serviced courses to organised groups of at least ten
people. We have a separate provision for self programming and family groups,

About the Buildings
The Lagganlia campus consists of a central main building with 50 beds, and a
collection of smaller lodges varying in capacity from sixteen beds to four
beds. We have a total of 125 beds on site. Fully serviced courses might be
accommodated in any of the buildings on site. We normally billet a visiting
member of staff in each of the smaller lodges so that students can be
adequately supervised. The buildings are all within sight of one another, and
are of modern design, clean, warm, and well maintained.

Courses
Courses at Lagganlia are customised to suit the special needs of each
individual group. In addition to this we aim to retain as much flexibility in
the programme as possible, so that if the weather deteriorates, or the needs of
the group require it, we can respond by offering the best programme for that
particular group on that particular day. Some activities are seasonal, and some
are very dependent on the prevailing weather, so it is almost impossible to
predict in advance exactly what programme groups will follow.

Other Groups
Many visitors use the centre as a residential base for other purposes and break
up their visit with outdoor activities or visits. These groups have included;
Foreign groups learning English.
Musicians using us as a base for intensive rehearsals.
Sixth Year Studies Maths weekends.
Silversmiths using us as a base for craft work.
Bird Watchers
Bible study groups.
